Spring things – part two

I almost forgot.

We’re letting a Robin squat on our balcony.

Another words, we’re helping a Robin with her nest.  The Robin has been stopping by and dropping off “material” for the past few days.  Unfortunately, the material kept falling off of our balcony light fixture.

I felt bad.  Hailey felt bad.  We really wanted to do something to help the Robin but I wasn’t sure if human interference would scare her off.  So, I did a little research and found out what I wanted to do should be just fine.  I wanted to set something solid out there for the Robin to build her nest.

I looked through my cabinets in the hopes of finding something that would work and came up with the perfect solution.  A wooden bowl in the shape of a pineapple that we purchased on our Hawaiian honeymoon in 2002.

We picked up the material that fell from the light fixture and placed in in the bowl.  This was a couple of days ago and we’ve seen the Robin return, bringing more material.

I’ll be pretty stoked if she lays eggs here.  I’ll keep you posted.  In the meantime, we saw this mama Robin in her nest while we were out on a walk tonight:

If you squint, you’ll see her.

  1. We’ve got a dove in a nest on our front porch. Where did she build HER nest? In our Christmas wreath. That we didn’t take down. And now? We have to leave it up to support the babies! Gah. So trashy.
