We drove approximately 45 miles today to a book store, so our little girl could meet two characters from Sesame Street. One newbie character, Abby Cadabby and one old character, Cookie Monster.
Now, I have watched Sesame Street since I was at least 3 years old. I remember sitting on the living room floor and waiting for that jangly little theme song to start playing and then following Big Bird to Sesame Street. I’d hang out with Bird, Snuffy, Ernie, Bert, Grover, Cookie, Oscar, The Count, Telly, The Twittle Bugs, Maria, Bob, Gordon, and many others on a daily basis. I watched their skits and got a sneak peak at counting and the alphabet. You could pretty much say that Sesame Street flows through my blood.
Of course, over the years, Sesame Street and I went our separate ways but now that I’m a parent, that wonderful place has found it’s way back into my home and my heart. Much to my delight, Sesame Street is still on t.v., after all of these years. I can’t imagine a day when my kid(s) and their kids won’t have this land of colorful, happy, furry monsters (and fairies) to enjoy. In my opinion, one of the best, if not the best, educational children’s programming on television.
Back to the present and so far this year, I have made acquaintences with three of the Sesame Street characters: Grover, Cookie Monster and Abby Cadabby. Makes no difference that I’m a 30-something, I still want to just nuzzle and converse with these soft, friendly creatures. Then there’s my daughter, who is just borderline three years old. She’s been in this world for 36 months and has already met two characters from Sesame Street. The child has done more than I have in my almost 31 years on this earth.
So, I was a little nostalgic today and so happy that we took time out of our day to let our kiddo experience something that I only dreamed about when I was her age.
I’ve almost got my directions to Sesame Street down pat.
