A very disconnected me

This week has been a whirlwind so far. I started my new job this past Monday, so far, I couldn’t be happier. I have a few weeks of training to go but I can already tell this job is right up my alley. Luckily, the company has an excellent training program, so I am not just thrown out to be eaten by the sharks.

I have been having reservations about the daycare. I had them last week and voiced my concerns to the daycare director. Of course, she wanted us to stay and see how things would go. On Monday afternoon when I picked up the bug, I think I made my final decision that I would seek out a home daycare. As luck would have it, someone in my area contacted me to let me know she had a full-time opening just come up. I jumped on it. I met her after work tonight and I am really happy to make the switch to a home daycare setting. I think Hailey will be much more comfortable in this environment.

Speaking of Hailey, she has been coughing and ended up spiking a fever on Monday night. Eric has been home with her for the past two days and will be at home with her again tomorrow. God love him. I just can’t take time off right now because of my in-depth training. Luckily, both of us seem to have really compassionate bosses, so we’re able to make it work out for this week.

Tomorrow, I need to contact the daycare and let them know we’re going a different route. I’m not sure what they’ll say, as I think the rule is that you have to give a two week written notice. I would be a little surprised if they came back and made us pay…since she’s only been there for one day this week so far. If I do take her out of the daycare, I’ll have to figure out what we’re going to do with her on Friday. If she’s still feverish and coughing, I can’t expect anyone else to care for her and put themselves at risk.

Unbelievable how all of this happens during my first week of work. I feel disconnected from the life that I was living but I hope to get some sort of balance back soon.

I do home daycare a few days a week, and I have to tell you that I love the kids I watch almost as much as I love my own. I hope she feels better quick and that you all get into your new routine easily!

  14. Hi … It’s Kristina from MOMformation … we met at Camp Baby. I was thinking of you this week, remembering that you were starting a job. Seems like it’s been hectic but good. And good choice on your daycare situation. A mom knows what is best for her child and good for you for doing it. Take care … and let me know if you visit STL

GOOD LUCK!!! THINKING OF YOU!!!
