American Idol: The Top 12 Sing The Beatles

idolI’m going to go ahead and get my main American Idol spoiler over right now.  Either David Hernandez or Kristy Lee Cook is going home after tomorrow night.  I’ll get to my reasons why in a bit.

Overall, tonight’s show was pretty entertaining.  Everyone was getting a little crazy and what was up with Ryan Seacrest mosh pitting around the stage with Chikezie?  Soon he’ll be wearing a mohawk.  Speaking of mohawk’s, when will David Cook bring back his?  I’m all about that David Cook boy.

I digress.  Let’s get on with the judging.  Syesha’s performance of “I Got to Get You into My Life” was nothing special.  She was kind of rockin’ a Whitney ‘do tonight I noticed.  Chikezie totally blew me away!  I haven’t been that into him until tonight.  I really love what he did with The Beatles’ “She’s a Woman”.  I agree with Randy, he really “smashed” that one!  But Ryan beating up on him like he was his little brother, come on now.  Ramiele sounded beautiful, like always, but Chikezie’s high energy performance was a pretty hard act to follow.  Next up, my boy Jason Castro performing “If I Fell”.  I’m biased because of my *tiny* crush on him but I really do think he’s a natural.  He seems so comfortable behind the guitar.  I didn’t think his performance tonight was super fabulous but I could definitely handle hearing that rendition over and over again on my iPod.  I was somewhat impressed with Carly tonight too.  She performed “Come Together” and did it quite a bit of justice, in my opinion.  I’m still not sold by her…she reminds me too much of Celine and she’s not really my cup ‘o tea.

David Cook
gets to start a new paragraph because he’s special.  David Cook.  Say it with me.  David Cook.  Ok, I’ve been watching too much Dora these days.  I can’t say anything bad about David.  He’s my rocker guy this season.  Anything he does with a song is probably going to score points in my book.  I dug his rendition of “Eleanor Rigby” tonight.  David Cook…he’s got it goin’ on.  Brooke performed “Let it Be” next and sent chills up my aching spine.  It was a truly lovely performance and the fact that she was able to live a dream of hers made it that much more amazing.  David Hernandez did absolutely nothing for me.  He tried to rock “I Saw Her Standing There” Elvis-style.  Ehhh…negatory, David.  Not working for us.  Oh, then there’s Amanda.  The Janis Joplin of 2008.  I would love to cut off those horrible fried white bangs of hers.  Ah but, she performed “You Can’t Do That” and she really does have her own style,  I have to give her props there.  Still, she just seems like the misfit of the bunch and I’m willing to guarantee she’ll be voted off fairly soon after a few others are weeded out.  Michael Johns reminded me a little of Eddie Vedder tonight.  I barely even remember what his rendition of “Across the Universe” sounded like.  He is nice on the eyes though, I must say, and I’m willing to bet that we’ll see him after this competition ends.

Do I even need to talk about Kristy Lee Cook?  Tonight was really the icing on the cake for me.  I once really, really thought that I was going to like her but this entire season she has just proved to be nothing special at all.  She never shows any emotion when she sings and what she did tonight with “8 Days a Week”, oh, don’t even get me started.  She should be voted off tomorrow night if you ask me.

Then there is my David Archuleta.  My sweet, sweet little David.  HOW COULD YOU GO AND FORGET YOUR WORDS?! He sang “We Can Work It Out”, Stevie Wonder-style.  Ah, doesn’t matter anyway.  He’ll be coming back again and again.  His past performances will help get him through this rough patch.  Oh, I just cringed every time he missed his lines.

Brooke and David Cook got my votes tonight and you already know my predictions for who’s going home tomorrow night.

One last thought.  My eyes are about to roll right out of my head with all of the eye-rolling I’ve been doing at Paula’s comments.  I don’t know how Randy and Simon can deal with sitting next to her each week.  Although, I will give her props for two fairly honest comments she made tonight. She finally had a REAL opinion!  Write that one down in the books ladies and gents.
