American Idol: The First Four Voted Off

Warning: Spoiler ahead.  If you haven’t watched tonight’s show, I’m about to ruin it for you.

I wasn’t planning to report on all things American Idol here at the Chicago Mom’s Blog but I’ve invested enough time in Season 7 thus far that I feel like it’s my rightful duty to spark up some conversation about the show.  I should really be writing about Lost, my all-time favorite t.v. show.  It’s amazing and has me more and more lost (no pun intended).

Tonight on Idol, the first four contestants were eliminated and I can say that I was not surprised about the two guys who were voted off but was a little surprised at one of the girls who was sent home.

If you have read my previous post where I picked apart the top 12 boys, you’ll see that I was right on with my vote of Colton Berry being sent home.  Anyone know if he’s making an appearance on Ellen yet?  Garrett Haley was also not a big surprise to me.  Maybe if he loses the Michael Bolton look-a-like thing and practices harder, he’ll make a comeback.  I always feel bad for the eliminated when the bad news is delivered.  I am curious to know where Jason Yeager ended up in the polls, as I just wasn’t impressed with his performance.  I am, however, glad he’s being given another chance to prove himself.

Now, for the girls.  I was a bit surprised that Joanne Borgella was voted off, not Amy Davis though.  For some reason, I figured she’d be voted off sooner rather than later.  You already know how I feel about Amanada Overmyer from my post covering the top 12 girls.  I don’t know about you but she just did not seem to mesh well during the group performance at the beginning of tonight’s show.  What they did with her hair, make-up and clothes just made me laugh.  You could tell that she just seemed out of her element.  It was also obvious to me when she and Joanne were waiting for the results that she had no relationship whatsoever with the losing contestant or any of the remaining contestants for that matter.  I’m not saying that they all have to bond and become blood brothers/sisters but come on, ultimately, all of these individuals have to work with each other for the duration of the season, for group performances and when the season is over, they all tour together.  I can’t for the life of me see Amanda involved with all of that.  She doesn’t seem like the kind of person that can be “molded” into the American Idol that the producers of the show expect.

I will be watching on to see if Amanda makes some sort of transformation to secure her spot on the show.  Although, I’m very doubtful that will happen.  Will I eat my words?
