American Idol: Top 12 Boys and My Secret Crush is Revealed!

Ai_2Alright, I’m very proud of myself for getting through all of the crazy American Idol Season 7 auditions and Hollywood week.  Generally after the first couple of audition episodes they lose this Chicago Mom, but not this time.  I have taken an interest in the musical talent this year.  Tonight was Idol’s “Top 12 Boy” performances.  My toddler now knows that “Tuesday night is mommy’s t.v. night”.

My favorites tonight were:

David Archuleta *cough* crush *cough* great voice and because he was sassy, David Cook for bringing the rock, Jason Castro for reminding me of Jack Johnson and Michael Johns for just being flat out gorgeous with a killer accent and a solid voice.  My second favorites would be Robbie Carrico because he’s a rocker too, Luke Menard because I think he has potential and Chikezie – who I thought wasn’t great tonight but does also have potential.  He did come across a little defensive and cocky with Simon in my opinion but I’ll chalk it up to nerves for him and give him another chance.

My least favorites, Colton Berry (he DOES look like Ellen!), Garrett Haley (ummmm), David Hernandez who I’m still *kind of* borderline on but I do give him props because he was the first out tonight and seemed really nervous, Danny Noriega kind of annoys me and just didn’t do it for me and Jason Yeager, who I would have loved to have seen do well but just really blew it tonight I thought.

My take on the judges.  I wish Randy would say, “Man, it was just a’ight for me, dawg.” a little less and really dig for something more constructive to say.  Paula is so full of fluff.  The Princess of Fluff, if you will.  I don’t think she could be any other way though.  I suppose they need that element of contrast for ratings.  Simon, I generally agree with, as he is the most brutally honest.  I think his comments on the looks of the contestants are unnecessary.  Maybe he would be more respected if he’d stay away from telling them they look like they’ve been locked in their bedroom for weeks.  Stick to judging the musical talent, Simon, and leave the looks to the fashion police.

So far, I think this has been a pretty enjoyable season of Idol.  The judges seem a little more upbeat,  the talent seems a little more promising and they seem to be focusing on a broader range of contestants.  Paula has acted less erratic this time and I believe I’ve seen Simon smile a little more than other seasons.  He actually looks like he is enjoying himself.

Did you vote for someone tonight?  David Cook got my vote.  I really thought he brought the rock and felt like he was one of the more energetic performances.  Yes, I could have voted for my crush but let’s face it, he’s adorable and has a great voice.  He’ll go far, tons of people will vote for him.  Hopefully not a ton of people think like me or he’ll end up being voted off because of us…YIKES!

Who do I think will be voted off?  Could be a tie between Jason Yeager and Colton Berry.  I just thought Jason’s performance was really boring.  He was definitely blown away by some of the others tonight and I thought it was really noticeable.  Not sure I could see him being all that exciting in future performances to be honest.  Colton Berry because…eeehhhh…I’m just not so fond of him.  We’ll see though!

I’m looking forward to hearing the “Top 12 Women” performances tomorrow night (notice, they refer to them as “women” and the men as “boys”).  Also looking forward to the guy’s results show this coming Thursday!  Will you be watching?
