The weather was finally not in the single digits warm enough to go outside and play in the snow. So Saturday, we took the bug to the only sledding hill in the Midwest. Ok, ok, maybe it’s not the ONLY one but geez, from where I came from…the Midwest sure lacks in sledding hills.

When I was a kid, I remember spending countless hours outside in the snow. We wouldn’t come in until the sun went down and we were soaked through our snow pants. I’m sure that my neighbor has similar memories of our snowy days back in PA. I think our favorites may have been when the schools would close for the day and we could get outside very early in the morning. We had a “tiny” hill at the top of our yard and it was so fun to get a running start and sled off of it down through the yard.

I miss the simplicity of those days. We built snow forts and snowmen and had snowball fights. One particular snowball fight that is still fresh in my memory is one of my dad, me and my brother in the yard. My dad threw a snowball at me and hit me square in the face. I was not happy. But, wow, those days were so fun and care free. Of course then Nintendo came out and that’s all we wanted to do.

I was all smiles on Saturday because the memories just came gushing back and I felt like a kid again. I haven’t been sledding in at least 12 years. I can’t even remember the last time I went, really. Hailey had her eyes covered the majority of the trips down the hill. She was totally loving it though.
