It’s F-F-F-F-REEEEZING!

Last night was sooooo cold! Our house sits right in the middle of a wind tunnel. There are buildings on either side of us, so the wind just travels straight down and makes all kinds of eerie whistling noises and you can literally feel the draft flowing right through our house to the other side. We have crappy windows, just ask my husband. He knows everything and more about windows.

Anyway, I thought for sure the bug would wake up with all of the creaking and whistling. She was sleeping quite soundly, which I was pretty happy about after all of the drama of the day. I’m a night owl, so I’m generally the last to bed. When I finally decided to hit the hay, those motherly worries just enveloped me and I wanted to check on her. I asked Eric if he wouldn’t mind her coming to sleep with us for the night. This isn’t a normal thing for us because she is HORRIBLE to sleep with. She’s all over the bed. I always end up with about 3/4 of an inch of bed when she’s in it with me.

I digress. I went into her room and asked her if she’d like to come and sleep in mommy and daddy’s bed. Her sleepy-tired answer was “kay”. I carried her to our room and we all settled in. I should have known better. Ollie (the big fat cat) starts meowing downstairs. You have to know my cat. He has the personality of a dog. I’m pretty sure he’s a dog in a cat’s body. Whenever there is something “off”, he gets a little nutty. I know he was nervous about all of the sounds; the creaking house, the wind, etc. So, I went downstairs to try and shut him up. That worked. I went back upstairs and finally got comfy when the OTHER cat starts walking all over us. I pushed her off about a million times before she finally got the hint. All the while I’m thinking what a bad idea this was because now none of us would get any sleep. I kept hearing thumps and thuds and totally thought someone was breaking in. Then, the trains were racing by out back. Of course, I’m thinking they are probably tornadoes and we’re all going to get sucked up into one. I have a pretty big fear of tornadoes.

I think we all finally fell asleep. Around 5:30 am, the bug wakes up and starts chattering. I decide to go downstairs and get some water. While I’m downstairs, I hear movement upstairs. I head back upstairs to Eric sitting on the toilet with her on his lap. He’s holding a piece of toilet paper over her nose and she has blood all over her face and her hands. She sneezed. SNEEZED. What is up with all of the bloody noses this kid has?!?! The bleeding finally stopped and we got her cleaned up and laid back down. The rest of the morning was shot. I dozed off here and there but with Eric getting ready to leave for work and her talking up a storm about who knows what, sleeping was non existent.

Here were are, mid-morning and I’m trying to remain as chipper as possible…looking very forward to nap time…for both of us.

  1. electric boogaloo

that kid has the most sensitive schnaz in the world!

  2. radioactive girl

My daughter has bloody noses if you even touch her wrong. I think the dry weather probably isn’t helping either, right?

  3. It was so cold last night here in MI. The winds were the most intense i can remeber since i was a kid.

  4. Last night WAS scary, wasn’t it? A picture really can’t do it justice. Crazy storm…

  5. So sorry about the bloody noses. That sucks. Our heat is out. :( Stupid Chicago cold.

  6. The wind is such a killer! Hope your heat is working better.

  7. isn’t it funny when you have days/nights like this to look back on the days where the word “responsibility” meant not getting TOO trashed at the big st. marys camp party because you’re the “designated driver” that night and the only thing you had to worry about was getting enough sleep the next day so that you could go out and do it again the following night…
