These photos are from our honeymoon in Hawaii in 2002. It was the most amazing vacation I have ever been on. I was truly in paradise. This one is me on our lanai in Hanalei Bay on the island of Kauai. We had a garden view in a fabulous hotel. In the middle of the night, every night, the lovely wild roosters wouldn’t shut up. I will never forget that.

This one is on Poipu Beach on the southeastern tip of the island. It was so pretty there! We snorkeled there and it was incredible. I kept screaming under water and grabbing onto Eric. The fish were just gorgeous.

Here are some falls on the island. We drove around the entire island in five hours. We followed a map and drove down some pretty tiny dirt roads to get to these falls. I’m not sure which falls these are anymore. Probably the Opaekaa Falls. Simply stunning.

We stayed at the Princeville Resort on Hanalei Bay, after being shooed from our original accommodations because our room there was being “painted”. Hey, we weren’t complaining that we were being put up at a five star hotel right down the road for the same rate! Anyway, this was the view from the lobby of the resort. We sipped Mai Tai’s and watched the sun set almost every night from our private beach there. It was an amazing view. This is by far my favorite photo from our honeymoon.

We left Kauai after three (entirely too short) days to head over to the Big Island for the rest of our honeymoon. I wasn’t all that impressed but then again, we didn’t do a whole lot of sightseeing there. We stayed along the Kona Coast in a hotel on the ocean. We had an ocean view this time which was pretty awesome. We walked along quite a bit of lava while we were there…some very active like the one below. It was crazy to watch this lava flowing and building onto the island! We literally had to jump over it to keep walking.

Ok, seriously, this picture has been IN THE VAULT for the past five years. I can’t believe I’m posting it here but I guess enough time has passed that I can laugh about it. We did a snorkel boat cruise while we were on the Big Island. I was not feeling well at all. I would say it was probably a combination of nerves and just getting married and seasickness. I literally felt like I was going to vomit as we approached the boat. I sucked it up and talked myself into feeling alright for the boat ride out to sea. We did some amazing snorkeling out there and then we all got back on the boat, had some lunch and drinks and headed back to shore. I knew it was coming. I felt so sick. Eric had to get me a bag to vomit into. The people around me must have been so grossed out. The boat was FULL. Oh, I felt horrible! This picture pretty much says it all.

Last but not least, we went to a Luau. It was nice. We watched them dig up the buried pig from the ground and everything. There was quite an assortment of food to eat. I was still a bit queasy from the boat cruise earlier that day but I made myself have a good time.

There’s my throwback! Hope you’re all warm now. I know we’re going to need some warmth here in the Midwest as we plummet into single digits.

I swear, I could have written most of that post in regards to my sister’s wedding trip we all made in ’97! We stayed in Kauai for the week, though. I too, screamed in excitement over the fish in Poipu beach, saw the falls, drove around the island in less than a day, snorkeled every day, and went on a fishing boat (caught a tuna!) and a catamaran (though I didn’t puke. My aunt did, though!). Lovely pictures. I would have liked to have seen the volcanoes, but Kauai was so gorgeous, that I didn’t mind.

  4. PinksandBluesGirls
