After Eric came home from work and we finished our dinners (I say dinners because we generally all eat something different during the week) and Hailey’s guitar lesson, we all sat back and relaxed in her play area. The “play area” is once where my adorable, round glass top, swirly table and chairs sat. Now, it is full of every toy imaginable.

I digress. We popped in a DVD on the portable and sat down to play My Little Ponies. That’s right. My little family of three sat down to play My Little Ponies which ended up turning into a braiding session. Two of us were braiding the ponies’ tails. One of us is a toddler so I’ll let you guess which two were doing the braiding of the tails.

Now I just opened a whole new can of worms because as I was searching for an image of a specific My Little Pony (since I am too lazy to just go and take a picture of ours), I found an image of an old toy I had growing up. As if braiding a My Little Pony’s tail didn’t bring me back to my childhood enough, I had completely forgotten about this specific toy. It was a “My Pretty Pony”, the FIRST one to come out in 1981! It was much bigger and plastic. It had a saddle (which was basically a red piece of felt), a hat and a brush. There was a lever under its chin and when you pulled on it, the eyes would blink and the tail would go side to side. Wow, the memories are just flooding back in. How could I have forgotten about a toy that I remember loving so much as a child? I think about this a lot with all of the toys laying around our house. Which ones will Hailey remember and talk about when she’s older? Will I remember what she’s talking about? After all, when I pick out her toys, I have my own good taste in mind. =)

Now since that’s all out in the open, here is what this post was REALLY supposed to be about. If you are a fan of The Lord of the Rings and you have a child, then I highly recommend you picking up a copy of VeggieTales: Lord of the Bean. It is he-larry-us! Hailey had no idea why I found this movie so amusing. Of course it’s much shorter in length than the original LOTR and rated ok-for-toddler-to-watch. We’re planning on taking her to see the new VeggieTales movie this week. Now THAT should be something to blog about.

ear-a-corn. and the elfish impersonator. those cracked me up.
I had a My Pretty Pony and LOVED it! Steph
So I guess she liked that My Little Pony I got her? :)I LOVED My Little Ponies when I was a kid.
Boy I remember a whole lot that happened in 1981! Ok…I guess that shows too much of my age. Come to think of it, my husband graduated HS in 81. I guess that tells you that I’m too old for My Little Pony by the time it came out.It sounds cute how you were braiding the ponies hair with Hailey..aaaw!
my mom was/still is a packrat. hence i’ve become a packrat. so we have my actual my little ponies from back in the day! along with my record player/records, barbies and a zillion clothes and barbie accessories (like the house, car, whirlpool), hungry hippo, cabbage patch dolls, little golden books, i can’t even name everything. but one thing that’s SUPER COOL is to see her wearing my old clothes and playing with my old toys. it really takes me back. (and vintage toys are so much better!)
Amy I forgot all about your “My Pretty Pony”. You sure did like it. I remember it now myself. I can’t wait until Hailey’s old enough to play with all your old barbies and all those clothes. Of course you cut the hair on all of them!!
