We’ll leave the light on for ya

Trip to PA – Day one

We started out on our journey across I-80 around 8:30pm. To our good fortune, there was minimal traffic. We generally do not get this lucky.

Nineteen months old is proving to be a difficult age for the bug (and us). Hailey is still cutting her eye teeth. I imagine that can be pretty painful, as those little suckers are very pointy. She has also shown signs of cutting her two year molars. She has always cut teeth fairly early and one right after another. I know mouth pain and it isn’t pretty. She finally started drifting off to sleep about an hour and a half into the drive.

Eric and I always seem to make pretty good conversation on these long road trips. We bounced business ideas off of each other and excitement was in the air. Then suddenly, about three hours into the drive without one iota of warning, my two grande nonfat extra shot white mochas and grande nonfat extra shot, pump of caramel, caramel macchiato ceased caffeinating me. It was time to pull over and let the man take the wheel.

I went into the mini travel plaza to grab some late night road trip munchies and when I got back to the SUV, Eric was still in the passenger seat trying to comfort a crying, shaking, wide-eyed little girl. The car ride so far was getting the best of her. She had been in and out of sleep thus far with at this point, no return to shut eye in sight. After about ten minutes of all out crying and screaming, we got back on the road.

Eric is driving and I’m nodding off here and there in-between tonguing at my temporary crown. I’m becoming obsessed with it. About and hour after we stopped, Eric could no longer keep his eyes open, so we opted to stop at a motel (8, because they leave the light on for ya). We realized that this was the same Super 8 Motel that we stopped at on Christmas on our way to PA. Seems to be the routine now, to stop and sleep. We used to be able to make this trip straight through with minimal breaks when we were younger.

The three of us crammed into the full size bed in our upgraded room (with a couch!) and were able to finally catch some z’s. Pennsylvania would just have to wait until morning for the Muellers.
